Cellular Connection
This body of work explores the enduring connections between mother and child, and between human beings and the universe. Inspired by the phenomenon of fetal microchimerism—the lasting presence of a child’s cells in a mother’s body and vice versa—I am drawn to the invisible yet profound ways we remain connected across time and distance, not only through memory or emotion, but at a cellular level. These works also reflect our interconnection with the natural world, particularly through water: the medium that links all life, flowing through our bodies, our histories, and the earth itself.
The visual language of this series has been shaped by years of sketching paired drop forms—curved, reaching, almost touching. These figures evoke water droplets, but also blood, DNA, and the moment of cellular division. They suggest closeness and separation, the intimacy of becoming and the inevitability of letting go.
